SYLVA LAUEROVÁ IS A GUEST OF HONOR AT IVANČICE GRAMMAR SCHOOL’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY
Following several years of collaboration with the Jan Blahoslav Grammar School in Ivančice, in the form of poetry workshops with the students held every year on Poetry Day, resulted in an invitation to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the school's founding. On Saturday, 21st September 2019, the entire school board met in the morning to begin a day-long celebration of the school’s centenary. The event was attended by pupils, friends of the school, and the general public, as well as teachers and headmasters, both current and previous. Other guests of honour were the Chairman of the Czech and Moravian Trade Union of Workers in Education, František Dobšík, and the Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Robert Plaga, who gave the opening address for the afternoon session. Both of these guests are former graduates of the school. In addressing the school’s board, Sylva’s speech touched on the crucial and unmistakable role of teachers in our lives. It was a wonderful day to celebrate the school’s centenary; the sun shone, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and we are already looking forward to meeting again at the student poetry workshop this November.
